Spaceship Media is a San Francisco Bay Area-based nonprofit that uses journalism to advance meaningful dialogue and engagement between communities in conflict or at odds. We launched this project, the Alameda Police/Student Conversation, which brought Encinal High School students into communication with Alameda Police Department officers, against a backdrop of national distress surrounding policing and police shootings. While the issue of police conduct itself certainly came up during our project, our focus was not on that, but on exploring the fractured relationship between police and many youth of color here in the City of Alameda.
